I want to start by wishing everyone a belated
Happy New Year. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday break.
A number of parents have expressed concern with
the morning drop-off traffic on the Panama Ave. side of campus,
which has become quite popular this school year. PTA board members
have contacted the district regarding the situation and have been
assured that it will be evaluated in the near future. In the
meantime, I want to urge everyone to be careful and patient in the
morning, no matter how busy it gets.
Thanks to all the parents who are participating
in the site planning effort. It’s a significant time commitment,
but vital to Deterding’s future.
Membership chairs Julie Gerbitz and Jan Hammond
are happy to announce that the 3rd and 4th grades won the "Build a
Sundae" PTA membership drive. Hope they enjoyed their sundaes….
The membership drive definitely improved
membership numbers, but the fact is that most Deterding families
have not become PTA members. As I’ve said in prior columns, I
can’t stress how important those $10 per family membership fees
are. They fund your PTA’s capacity to provide needed supplies to
Deterding’s classrooms (especially critical in a difficult economy
like the one we’re living through now), as well as to put on
family events that strengthen the campus community. If you’ve not
yet joined, please do.
One more reminder to make sure that we have
your email address so you’ll receive Bridge Blasts between monthly
issues of the Bridge. Send your email address to
thebridge@deterding.org and we’ll make sure you’re on the
subscription list.
Finally, I want to thank Danielle Blessing for
joining the PTA board as Programs Co-Chair.
