Rapid Learner Program Highlights :
Academic Program
- 2RL: 3rd grade language arts and 3rd grade math. Spanish
instruction: 30 minutes a week.
- 3RL: 4th grade language arts and 4th grade math. Spanish
instruction: 30 minutest a week.
- 4RL: 5th grade language arts and 5th grade math (emphasis on
communication and writing skills/CA writing standards.)
Spanish instruction: 90 minutes a week.
- 5RL: 6th/7th grade language arts and 6th/7th grade math.
Spanish instruction: 90 minutes a week.
- 6RL: 7th grade pre-algebra. 6th grade language arts text
with selected novels.
- Social Studies: CA grade-level standards. Emphasis:
history, maps, geography, and current events.
- Science: CA grade-level standards with extensions.
Emphasis: life, physical, and earth sciences. Text: Harcourt.
Supplementary materials: FOSS and extended units.
- Math enrichment: UC Davis Professor, Rick West. All Rapid
Learner classes once a week for 6 weeks.
- Technology: All classrooms have computers, printer, laser disc
players, TV and VCR. Computer Lab: 34 iMac computers with
internet access.

- 3RL: 2-night Marin Headlands experience (Headlands Institute)
- 4RL: 3-night Camp Lodestar, Wilseyville (Web of
Life)
- 5RL: 5-night Yosemite experience (Yosemite Institute)
- 6RL: Monte Toyon (Aptos)
Fine Arts Curriculum
Instrumental Music Instruction
- Grade 4: Recorder: 40 minutes a week
- Grade 5: Beginning Band: 40 minutes, twice a week
- Grade 6: Advanced Band: 40 minutes, twice a week
Vocal Music Instruction
- Grades 2 and 3: Vocal Instruction: 40 minutes a week
- Grades 4, 5 and 6: Vocal Instruction: 40 minutes, every
other week
Performing Arts Instruction
- 2RL: with all 2nd grade classes: The Turkeys Go On

- 3RL: with all 3rd grade classes: Interactive musical:
Vacation to Mars
- 4RL: with all 4th grade classes: Readers' Theatre
- 5RL: Yosemite Memories production

Visual Arts Instruction
- Grades 2 and 3: Art Instruction: 40 minutes twice a week
- Grade 4, 5 and 6: Art Instruction: 80-120 minutes a week
- All Grades: Elective Workshops: After School
Community Service
3RL: Raising steelhead in the classroom & releasing in the
American River.
5RL: Reaching Out to Elders program.
6RL: Teach 2nd grade students to read.
All classes: Buddy program with other students on campus.
