Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Mary A. Deterding Elementary School Rapid Learner Program.  We are proud to be one of three schools in the San Juan Unified School District that offers this program for gifted and talented students.  The Rapid Learner classes offer an challenging level of academic instruction for students who excel in areas of math and language arts.  While the Rapid Learner classes are not for every GATE identified student, many students flourish in this setting of accelerated instruction, high expectations, and quality curriculum. 

Our Deterding program emphasizes the arts, with visual art and music instruction taught at every grade level.  Students at Deterding have many opportunities to develop their own artistic abilities through classes, after school workshops, and musical or drama performances.
